DIVISION & OVERALL CHAMPIONS

Junior Buck

Selected by Danny Thompson

Champion
The structure of a buck is the foundation of a good buck. This young guy shows structural correctness in that he is correct on his feet and legs, standing squarer with a strong top line. He has good substance of bone and on that heavy structure he has muscle. As seen in his big forearm and his thick, square hip. For me with all his power, what really brings him to the top is he still blends smoothly into the shoulders. Giving him the style and balance combined with the bone and muscle of a stud buck.
Reserve Champion
Powerful Buck Kid lots of muscle and thickness. Not as well balanced (like to see him blend in at the neck-shoulder junction better) as the champion but still a powerful champion in his own right.

Buck

Selected by Joe Raff and Marvin Shurley

Congratulations! to the breeders and owners of the four bucks in this championship drive. An overall good set of bucks. We would have preferred that the photos of the senior division bucks allowed an evaluation of their pasterns.
We like the Sr. Div. Champ for overall champion. He is a goat very modern in his design showing the quality we like to see in our top animals. A very well balanced animal with good depth of body, muscling, and extension out through the front end. As a young Sr. buck he still shows plenty of growth potential. The Jr. Champion is a young goat with a nice round rib shape, and heavy muscling as evidenced by his thick forearms. Excellent scrotal attachment, and hip structure as well. Certainly a young buck with the potential to be a grand champion as he matures. Shorter rear pasterns would be preferable but he has plenty otherwise to earn him to the title Overall Reserve Champion.

Hi Phil and Judy, thought I would forward these pictures to you as my niece had quite a successful season with a Prototype wether. My brother bought him in Steve Dahnke's spring wether sale, I believe he was an early November wether. He was never beaten in class and was grand champion at 3 out of the 4 summer youth wether series shows. She won over $1400 showing him and was reserve high point junior exhibitor of the summer series, would have been high point winner but missed the first show to play in her soccer tournament. He was a dandy and they did a great job feeding and exercising him. He was a true athlete.

Hope all is well with you, I really like the pictures of your Prototype buck, "Pro-Sandy", he looks very promising. Like the name, too!

Sincerely

Sandy Duncan

DAY 1 OF THE OKLAHOMA STATE FAIR  WAS AN ABGA SHOW AND DAY 2 WAS AN IBGA SHOW.  SANDY WAS ONLY 6 WEEKS OLD WHEN WE DECIDED TO TAKE HIM TO THIS SHOW.  THERE IS A REAL DANGER WHEN A BUCK IS THIS YOUNG THAT EVERYONE WILL TALK ABOUT HOW CUTE HE IS BUT CUTENESS DOES NOT WIN SHOWS.  WHEN WE SAW THE COMPETITION, OUR HEARTS SANK WITHIN US.  THE COMPETITION WASN'T JUST GOOD----IT WAS OUTSTANDING.  HOWEVER, WE WERE VERY FORTUNATE EACH DAY AS THE JUDGES BEGAN THEIR MOST DIFFICULT TASK OF EVALUATING THE MERITS OF EACH GOAT AND THEN MAKING THE FINAL DECISION AS TO WHICH BUCK WAS BEST.  WHEN ALL WAS SAID AND DONE, THE JUDGES ON DAY 1 (ABGA SHOW) AND DAY 2 (IBGA SHOW) HANDED US THE BLUE RIBBONS.
